O’Cuccinelli (He's 1/2 Irish!) Discusses 10th CD & PWC Conventions

The St. Patrick's Day edition of the Cuccinelli Compass touched on the miserable failings of Jim Rich's leadership of the 10th Congressional District committee- particularly highlighting the fact that under his leadership the committee has failed to issue basic financial reports or provide any money or support to some conservative Republican candidates in the district. Here is some of what the Senator had to say:

The current 10th District chairman does not have finance reports at committee meetings; there is no openness about when critical meetings will be held; and attempts are regularly made to control the proceedings before anyone even shows up. None of this is consistent with the kind of openness that Cong. Wolf practices in representing us.

Why are we conducting our party business in such a controlled and secretive way? We can do better.

Second, the Republican performance continues to decline in the 10th District, with no significant help from the 10th District committee...

Cuccinelli encourages everyone to support Heidi Stirrup's campaign to bring openness and operational effectiveness to the committee. He specifically urges registered voters in Prince William County and the City of Winchester (the only regions where the filing deadline has not yet passed) to file for the convention before tomorrow’s deadline. Information on how to do so is in the full Cuccinelli Compass below the fold.

Dear Fellow Republicans,

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! For those of you that didn’t know, I’m half Irish (O’Cuccinelli), and proud of it.

In this newsletter I want to make a couple of points about why those of you in the 10th Congressional District should support Heidi Stirrup for Chairman. I will do this periodically through the next few weeks, as many of you consider whether or not to file for the 10th District convention.

First, in the 10th District we have a Congressman who uses his franking privilege that way it should be used – Cong. Wolf sends out his entire voting record out to his constituents. This sort of open government is admirable, and we need it within our party too.

Second, the Republican performance continues to decline in the 10th District, with no significant help from the 10th District committee. Ask our recently ousted Republican champion, Del. Dick Black, how much support he got from the 10th District Committee… he’ll tell you: $0 and zero help. Ask him if that’s just in this election and he’ll tell you, ‘no, that’s for all of my elections.’ And for those of you that know, Dick Black has been under fire for years for his solid pro-life, anti-tax, pro-2nd Amendment positions, so he has needed the help for a long time.

There are many more reasons to support Heidi Stirrup for Chairman of the 10th District Committee coming at you soon, but for now, there are some deadlines that will hit tomorrow, so if you live in Prince William County or the City of Winchester, please make sure you get filed for the 10th District convention on time – the deadline is tomorrow!

Please forward this email to your Republican activist friends in the 10th District, as we need every vote!

PWC

I hope those of you in Prince William County will get your convention filing in the mail before tomorrow (postage marks count in PWC). You can get a form here: http://www.pwcgop.org. Please fill it out, provide a check, and mail it in today!

I hope all of you will attend the PWCRC convention and vote for Brian Murphy – a good guy and a great unit chairman!

I also hope that all of you in the 10th District will come to the 10th District convention on May 20th and vote for Heidi Stirrup for Chairman of the 10th District Republican Committee. Heidi is endorsed by budget-cutting Senator Tom Coburn. Senator Coburn knows what a proven, talented, grassroots Republican Heidi is. If you’d like to see Sen. Coburn’s endorsement letter, please email me at Ken4Sen@Cuccinelli.com, and we’ll send you a copy.

WCRC

For those of you in the City of Winchester, your filing deadline is this Saturday too! And I understand that you will have an entertaining city convention… and I hope that I’ll see you at the 10th District convention for Heidi Stirrup as well.

You need to get your filing forms to WCRC Chairman Gary Chrisman by tomorrow, Saturday the 18th. Unfortunately, I don’t know any more details, but if you want to file and need help, please email us at Ken4Sen@Cuccinelli.com and we’ll do what we can to get back to you on time!

Get filed and get involved. Let’s liven up this party!

Sincerely,

Senator Ken Cuccinelli

Cuccinelli's district is in Fairfax County. I would presume Cuccinelli's influence is highest in Fairfax County, but the filing deadline has passed for Fairfax County. Why didn't he send this out before the Fairfax deadline?

Sophrosyne said:

He did encourage people in an earlier email... but it was a secondary comment behind his work in the Senate.

I assume his focus was primarily on supporting the needs of his constituents while the General Assembly was in session and now he has some more time to tend to these kind of Party matters.

But your point is still good... why did the Stirrup team fail to put together a real grassroots effort prior to the deadlines.

I was ceaselly harrassed by Stirrup's team to participate but declined to assist when they questioned whether I thought it more important to elect a new District chair or whether I was willing to skip my kids little league game.

Sophrosyne said:

It's good to hear someone was being contacted... all I have heard from up to this point are folks who wanted to get involved but were never contacted even when their information was provided to the campaign.

Who knows how this thing will turn out.

I read Ken's e-mails, and I did miss the pitch for Fairfax. I hear that filings in Fairfax were few.
