Cloture defeated! Destruction of U.S. postponed!

It's not over yet. The bill is withdrawn - and could be put back on the floor.

True, but to be truly dead, it has to pass the cloture vote first, which requires 60 votes. If it passes cloture, it only needs 50 votes to pass (assuming Cheney would vote as Bush wants).

I would rather it never pass cloture in the first place, rather than take the risk that it will pass just to be sure it dies.

The other thing to consider is that, if I recall correctly, Queen Nancy will not allow the bill to come up in the House unless Bush can deliver something like 60-70 GOP votes for the bill.
Something about the Dems not wanting it to be considered their bill.

Let us be sure to call and write our Senator for their votes against cloture. (Praise your dog when he obeys, chastise him when he does not.)

I sent the following to Sen. Warner:
