The senators listed below the fold all voted for cloture on S. 1639, which would have allowed the bill to go forward.

Here is the bill.

Here is the package of amendments.

Reasons why anyone who voted to allow this bill to proceed should be bounced out of office at the next available opportunity are here, here, and here.

There are some fairly prominent names on this list. Good. Some nice fat targets.

Joe, this is the list of "usual" suspects but does not encompass the whole lot that voted for first cloture. I don't want these elected officials to "get it" somewhere down the road. I want officials to get it right up front and on their own instead of waiting for a general outcry from the citizens. We need to never let them forget and find better candidates, even for those incumbants of our own party, for the next election. Let's make it clear that turning a deaf ear to the constituency but once will mean a death sentence to their politcal career.

Certainly there was some opportunism demonstrated in the second vote, some me-tooism when the result was evident. But I think some, like Webb, felt the overwhelming constituent opposition on Wednesday and Thursday and said, whoa!

If they have the ability to learn, I'm ok with that.
